Big Idea for this lesson

Fractions can be grouped by how big they are. A unit fraction has a 1 on top. A proper fraction is less than 1 (top smaller than bottom). An improper fraction is more than 1 (top bigger than bottom). A mixed number pairs a whole number with a proper fraction.
