Recognize that fractions can be positive or negative, and apply the sign rules: an even count of negatives gives a positive; an odd count gives a negative.

Fractions can be positive or negative. When you multiply signed numbers, two negatives equal a positive — and three negatives take you back to a negative. Count the negatives: even = positive, odd = negative.
