Identify the conjugate of an expression by changing the sign between its terms, and explain why adding an expression to its conjugate always eliminates the variable term.

A conjugate keeps the same numbers but flips the sign between the terms. When you add an expression to its conjugate, the variable parts cancel out and you're left with twice the constant โ that cancellation is the whole point of conjugates in algebra.
