Add decimal numbers accurately by aligning decimal points and carrying correctly when a column sums to 10 or more.

Big Idea for this lesson

$A painted illustration of two vertical bead-towers of small polished round beads aligned precisely against a central wooden post — the towers are arranged side-by-side and exactly the same height — with one extra small bead floating just above the top of the left tower as if it has been lifted up out of one column to make room in the next. Always line up decimal points before adding — this ensures you're adding tenths to tenths, hundredths to hundredths, and so on. When any column reaches 10 or more, carry the 1 to the next column just as you would with whole numbers.
