Find the inverse of a function by reversing the operation — if the function adds, its inverse subtracts; if it subtracts, its inverse adds.

An inverse function undoes what the original function did. If f(x) adds a number, f⁻¹(x) subtracts it. If f(x) subtracts, f⁻¹(x) adds. Apply a function and then its inverse, and you're back where you started.
