What you'll work on

Distinguish between a left-hand limit (x → 3⁻) and a right-hand limit (x → 3⁺), and understand how the direction of approach is shown in the notation.

Big Idea for this lesson

$A horizontal painted number line with a single tick mark in the middle drawn larger than the others, and two soft painted arrows hovering above it — one approaching the central larger tick from the left side, the other approaching from the right side, both pointing inward toward the same central tick. The direction you approach a value matters. x → 3⁻ means you're coming from the left side of 3 (smaller values). x → 3⁺ means you're coming from the right side of 3 (larger values). The tiny − or + superscript is your directional signal.
