Distinguish between a left-hand limit (x → 3⁻) and a right-hand limit (x → 3⁺), and understand how the direction of approach is shown in the notation.

Big Idea for this lesson

The direction you approach a value matters. x → 3⁻ means you're coming from the left side of 3 (smaller values). x → 3⁺ means you're coming from the right side of 3 (larger values). The tiny − or + superscript is your directional signal.
